Level 292 is the 293rd level of the Backrooms. It takes the appearance of a long abandoned computer lab.

Description

Level 292 is an endless, desolate school computer lab that has a variety of unique rooms. It contains objects found within a typical computer lab, including: tables, chairs, monitors, computers, projectors, and whiteboards. Wanderers have noted that every computer, regardless of its model, runs on the Windows XP operating system. These computers are functional and can be extremely helpful, but only the pre-installed programs on each computer will run. The reasons for this are currently unknown however, it is suspected by many that “The Voices Trapped Within The Computer” may be to blame. It is thought that the entity does this as a defence mechanism, to ensure its safety from outside programs.

Level 292 has many types of rooms, some serving an obvious purpose and some with seemingly no purpose. While these spaces are usually safe and can sometimes even contain useful materials or items that may help wanderers, they can also pose many safety threats. The most common ones are broken glass, broken computers with exposed wiring and random electrical components.

Similar to The End, Level 292 is completely silent, with only the noise of computers running being heard for miles on end. The monotonous hum of the computers can cause psychological distress, leading to visual and auditory hallucinations, so one should keep Almond Water on hand if they wish to explore this level. Dangerous entities inhabit Level 292, including anomalous spectral entities, so take extreme caution. Currently, no border or end has been found in Level 292.

Level 292 acts similarly to Level 0, as a wanderer can never encounter another soul within the level due to the immense isolation properties. It has been noted that an “outside” can be seen through windows within the level. The “outside” looks like a schoolyard in permanent night-time, occasionally the sound of students and teachers can be heard from this area. Unfortunately, reaching the “outside” is impossible as the windows are indestructible.

Bases, Outposts and Communities

An example of a "standard" room on Level 292, note that an example of an anomalous window is visible.

Due to the nature of this level, bases, outposts and communities are impossible.

Entities

Level 292 does not have conventional entities, but does contain several unique entities with spectral properties. These entities are referred to as “Spectral Entities”, and there are many types of spectral entities located on the level. Most spectral entities are benign or even helpful, but some are malevolent and will cause you harm. While accounts vary on the physical makeup and structure of these entities. They generally appear as transparent, wearing old torn down clothes (also transparent), dark red eyes, sharp teeth and other features a typical predator in nature may have. However, not all spectral entities are dangerous or threating in nature, with some providing assistance to wanderers by pointing and directing them to nearby exits

"A Familiar Professor"

This entity is typically using computers or tending to books within the office, it is friendly and can help wanderers. This entity takes two forms; the first form is a middle-aged woman or older man with modern clothes and glasses. The second form is a teacher or tutor from the wanderer’s past. Investigations into this entity’s connection to Mr. Freeman are ongoing.

"The Voices Trapped Within The Computer"

This entity has no physical form, instead it inhabits computers throughout the level. While inhabiting a computer, this entity emits sounds from the computer’s speakers that cause psychological damage. These sounds sometimes include phrases said in a robotic tone, listed below:

"A Wired Mess"

This is the most dangerous entity within the level, only being found in server rooms and supply closets. The entity is a massive yellow eye with a glowing red centre, possessing multiple appendages made of spare electrical parts and wiring. These entities attack in groups of up to five. They attack by firing electrical wires at high speed towards wanderers. This will eventually restrain the wanderer, at which point they will be dragged into the darkness, never to be seen again. The best way to avoid this entity is by running out of the room, as they cannot go through the doors that connect rooms.
